«In most cases where a social promotion campaign has to be carried out, the persuasive approach to obtaining from a group of individuals responses functional to the objectives of the promotional campaign is radically different from the market advertising approach. As a matter of fact, these groups of individuals have not, in principle, a basic general predisposition on which to insert the advertising message. […]
In such events, it is assumed that the awareness of the dangers inherent in a class of specific behaviors, which are dysfunctional towards given hygiene and health objectives or towards social objectives, is not widespread in the social environment. Namely, it is assumed that the individuals have a basic general predisposition, depending on the culture characterizing them in social terms, which activates dysfunctional behaviors.
Therefore, assuming the anomalous basic general predisposition as the dependent variable to change is necessary. Accordingly, it is not enough to focus on specific behavior modification […]. Instead, it is necessary to identify the basic general predisposition that activates those specific anomalous behaviors and try to replace it with a basic general predisposition that activates behaviors compatible with the social intervention objectives.» IT
